Every Foggy Dew Candle Co. candle is hand-poured using premium soy wax to provide a clean, long-lasting burn. Following these simple care instructions will help you enjoy your candle safely while getting the very best performance and burn life.
⚠️ Important Safety Notice
Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Never place a burning candle directly onto timber, polished furniture or benchtops without first using a heat-resistant coaster, trivet or candle plate.
Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Before You Light Your Candle
Trim the wick to approximately 6mm (¼ inch) before every burn. This helps prevent smoking, excessive flame height and soot while allowing your candle to burn more evenly.
The First Burn Matters
For the very first burn, allow your candle to remain lit until the melted wax reaches the edges of the vessel. This usually takes around 2–3 hours, depending on the size of the candle.
Extinguishing your candle too early can cause tunnelling, reducing both the burn quality and the overall life of your candle.
Burn Time
For safety, never burn your candle for more than 3–4 hours at a time.
Burning your candle continuously for longer than the recommended 3–4 hours may cause the vessel to become excessively hot and could damage the surface beneath it.
Allow the wax to cool and solidify before relighting.
Safe Placement
Keep your candle away from:
- Curtains and other flammable materials
- Draughts, fans and air-conditioning vents
- Children and pets
- Anything that could be damaged by heat
Never move a candle while the wax is molten.
Extinguishing Your Candle
Where possible, use a candle snuffer rather than blowing out the flame. This helps minimise soot and prevents debris from entering the wax.
When to Stop Burning
Discontinue use when approximately 10mm of wax remains in the bottom of the vessel.
Burning beyond this point may cause the container to become excessively hot and could damage the surface beneath it.

Why did my candle tunnel?
Tunnelling occurs when a candle is extinguished before the melted wax has reached the edge of the vessel. Allowing a full melt pool during the first burn helps prevent this and ensures an even burn for the life of your candle.
Why is my candle vessel so hot?
It is normal for a candle vessel to become warm during use. However, burning your candle for longer than the recommended 3–4 hours can cause the vessel to become excessively hot. Always allow your candle to cool before handling and ensure it is placed on a heat-resistant surface.
